Dear parents, as the third month of English school comes to an end I want to take a little time to inform you about what we have been doing so far. In spelling class the students are still learning new words and putting them into a correct context. We are still creating our own definitions of every spelling words to stimulate the creativity in the students and to make sure we fully comprehend the meanings of the words.
In grammar class we started talking about the different steps of the writing process and how we can apply proofreading to it. We started to create little sample drafts and started applying a simple form of proofreading to these. In this way the students get an idea of what proofreading is and how we can apply it to our own writings.
In science class we have been talking about different environments for different animals. We talked about how the environment provides the animals with the necessary nutrients and conditions to live. We also started looking into how different animals adapt to their own environments because each environment can differ a lot. We looked into what specific things animals need to survive and how they get adapted by a process called ‘survival of the fittest’. Furthermore we have been looking into the geographies of those different environments. Where are they located and what does that mean for the climate and conditions in these environments?
In social studies we started talking about communities and which layers they are build out of. We talked about the different forms and sizes of communities such as the urban, suburban and rural area. We also started talking about how every community needs laws and how the police and the court usually enforce those. We started comparing the laws in a community to the rules in a classroom and saw that breaking the laws or rules in both situations could result in a certain kind of ‘punishment’.
In writing class we started looking into details and conclusion. We started looking into our dream pets and started analyzing if it would be a good idea for us to get one. Comparing and contrasting the pros and cons of getting this pet finally resulted in a final and rational conclusion.
