Dear parents, as the first month of English school comes to an end I want to take a little time to inform you about what we have been doing so far. In spelling class the students learned a lot of new words and are able to put them in the context of a sentence they construct themselves. By doing this, the students are having good practice with making a correct sentence and creating a context for a word that they understand. In grammar class we are basically learning how you can provide that context by creating a sentence that is meaningful and is written in the write tense. Also the students started to learn how they can change these sentences and form them into interrogative sentences.

In science class we have been seeing all about plants and their needs. We investigated how the different parts of plants work together to provide the necessary nutrients the plants need to thrive in their environment. We also learned that plants adapt themselves to their environment by changing their part s so they are optimized to make the plant able to survive in harsh conditions. We also started introducing the vertebrates and how we can distinguish the different kinds of vertebrates from each other and classify them.

In Social studies we started by looking into communities, we have been covering the essence of a community and their different shapes and forms of existence. Further we have been looking at how the environment of a community correlates with the environment of a plant and how they differ from each other. We also have been looking at resources and how we can distinguish natural and unnatural resources. We looked into the importance of taking care of our natural resources and also into the dangers of only using the non-renewable resources as a source of energy in this world. By doing that we were able to see the importance of flow-resources like wind and water and also to see the importance of recycling.

In reading and writing class we started looking into different reading strategies and how to structure a good text with meaningful substance. In writing class  we wrote about a person we think is our example of a modern day hero. We also wrote a letter to a fictional neighborhood to prevent the closing down of Mrs. Wade’s bookstore.  I hope this information covers what you wanted to know about the courses that your children are taking.
