Dear parents, as the second month of the second semester comes to an end I want to take a little time to inform you about what we have been doing so far. In spelling class the students are still learning new words and putting them into a correct context. We are still creating our own definitions of every spelling word to stimulate the creativity in the students and to make sure we fully comprehend the meanings of the words.


In grammar class we have been talking about the different parts of a sentence such as adjectives and adverbs. We also looked into different forms of verb conjugations and how to apply them to our weekly journal writings. Next to that we worked on some major mistakes that are hard for the students to get rid of.


In science class we have been talking about matter and its different forms. We talked about the definitions for solids, liquids and gasses and made sure that we had a good understanding for each of these concepts. Furthermore we have looked into the way we describe objects. We incorporated our knowledge of the senses to describe which properties different objects can have. We also talked about the fact that some people have disabilities and are unable to use some of the senses we take for granted. We simulated these disabilities and used our other senses to describe matter and navigate ourselves in this world.


In social studies we talked a lot about communication and why it is one of the most important parts of our world. We looked into the evolution of communication and realized that certain inventions triggered the crossing of some frontiers in our ways of communicating with each other. Furthermore we have been looking into laws and why they are important for the healthy functioning of our communities. We defined a government and the tasks a government has in our society.


In writing class we looked into the usage of adjectives to make our stories more interesting. We also started focusing on story structure and the purpose of writing a story. We found out that different writers and texts have different purposes. We looked into the purpose of teaching the reader a lesson but also tried to create a text that was purely informative.
