Dear Parents,

Welcome to the penultimate newsletter of the year. The students have all worked hard in May.

In the first week, the students continued reading Animal Farm and wrote about having superpowers. In our social studies lesson we talked about governments. In science we investigated buoyancy. Our spelling lesson was about more words ending with ed or ing. We continued to prepare for our end of year show in our research lesson.

In the second week Our Grammar lesson was about opposites and adjectives. In our social studies lesson we talked about historical leaders. In science we had a review. Our spelling lesson was about the final sound in “Happy”. The students continued reading Animal Farm and wrote about their teachers being aliens.

In our week three social studies lesson we talked about the rights & responsibilities of citizens. Science compared the day sky and night sky. Our spelling lesson was about re and un prefixes. The students continued reading Animal Farm and wrote about an adventure with a time machine. Our Grammar lesson was about adjectives.

In week four, our spelling lesson was about ly and ful suffixes. In our social studies lesson we talked about what makes a hero. Science we investigated why it is day & night and learned about the moon. Our Grammar lesson was about sentences and exclamations. The students continued reading Animal Farm and rewrote their journal stories.

The writing pieces I have selected this month are: “Superpowers for a day” which the students really enjoyed as it involved them being superheroes and supervillains. The second was a science fiction story about the students coming to school and finding that their teachers are Aliens.

The students will continue to have a full and productive schedule right up until the end of term next month.

Sincerely,

Paul F. Hiett
