Dear parents, as the second month of English school comes to an end I want to take some time to inform you about what we have been doing so far. The class was off to a great start. We are all used to our routines and are having many fun learning experiences. In spelling class the students learned a lot of new words and are able to put them in the context of a sentence they constructed themselves. By doing this, the students are having a good exercise in making a correct sentence and creating a context for a word that they understand. In grammar class we are currently looking into the words that are the base of grammatically sound sentence. We are reviewing what we know about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs and are actively practicing using them. We are trying to spice up our sentences by using adjectives and adverbs when necessary.

In Science class we have been looking into the systems in our body. The first system we looked into is called the digestive system. We learned that the digestive system breaks down different nutrients and that each type of nutrient has its own function in the body. We saw that some nutrients provide energy, where other nutrients are there to build our body or to make things run smoothly. The second system we looked into is called the respiratory system. We learned that oxygen is the most essential component we need to create energy. We observed that the respiratory system is in place to make sure oxygen can be filtered and reach our bloodstream efficiently.

In social studies we looked into Regions. We learned that regions can be defined by different features. We looked into political regions such as countries, states, and cities but also in regions created by cultural background and/or language. As an example we saw that  landforms and different geographical attributes can shape regions such as mountain ranges, valleys, wetland, and bear territories.

In reading and writing class we started our second writing project. During the first week we created a brainstorm that was focused on picking characters and the traits they have. The goal was to demonstrate how major events in one’s life can change or shape new character traits. We also made clear guidelines for the contents of our beginnings, middles, and ends. During the second week we rewrote our beginning and made sure we were off to a good start. After reassuring our beginning we started writing our middle and end using our first week’s brainstorm and story guidelines.

Kind regards,
