Dear parents, as the third month of English school comes to an end I want to take some time to inform you about what we have been doing so far. The class was off to a great start. We are still used to our routines and are having many fun learning experiences. In spelling class the students learned a lot of new words and are able to put them in the context of a sentence they constructed themselves. By doing this, the students are having a good exercise in making a correct sentence and creating a context for a word that they understand. In grammar class we are currently reviewing the verb tenses. We talked about proper conjugation in the past, present, and future tense and started looking into the past continuous tense again. We are trying to focus on this by applying these grammar rules to our journal without making any exceptions.

In Science class we have been looking into the life cycles of living things. We looked at the plant life cycle and discussed the difference between the life cycle and life span of a plant. While discussing this we noticed that some plants only go one life cycle (mainly flowering plants) while others tend to go through many life cycles before ending their life span. After that, we started looking into the animal life cycle. We compared and contrasted many different life cycles and realized that there are many differences in the ways animals are brought up. In this sense, we noticed that some animals like mammals and birds are highly depended on the protection of their parents while other animals are completely autonomous from the moment they are born till the moment they die.

In social studies we looked into Global warming. We started our project by looking into the causes and effects of global warming. We looked for these answers in the documentary called “Before the Flood”. We found causes and effects that did not even occur to the students before watching the documentary. We also learned a bit about the process of global warming and how CO2 and CH4 contribute to this problem in different ways. Now, the students are creating an awareness poster that explains the problem of global warming to people who don’t know much about it. The goal of the poster is also to provide simple solutions and actions for people to deal with this problem.

In reading and writing class we started our third writing project. The students had to write about gender inequality and in which instances they have witnessed this form of equality in their own lives. Finally, the students had to frame the problem and use themselves as examples to go against these gender stereotypes.

Kind regards,

Teacher Eli
